Just a reminder that we are a PEANUT AND TREE NUT AWARE school! Please be mindful to our students who have allergies, and please do not pack anything nut related in your child's snack or lunch. I am including a link to a great article about peanut and tree nut allergies and how we can make sure our children are safe at school, and in the classroom. Click here to access the article. Thank you in advance for your cooperation! HAPPY FRIDAY!

Hi Parents and Students! Today I was once again very lucky to attend a conference on some "dusty topics". The day started with a Keynote Speaker, who is also a very famous author, Peter Reynolds. Peter is the author of the famous book "The Dot", and also my favorite, "The North Star." He shared his uplifting vision on how to inspire more creative classrooms, and shared his knowledge, and love of the written word. We heard all about his essentials to foster creativity and innovation in the classroom, and even got to see his amazing animation program that he created to get kids excited about writing, and animating stories. It was such a treat, and I am over the moon excited to get the kids involved in his animation technology to add onto their amazing creative writing that is done daily in the classroom. Here is a link to my most favorite story by him, "The North Star". Below are some pictures from the special Keynote. I also got the chance to learn all about computer programming, coding, AND how to integrate it into our curriculum. I cannot wait to get the students on the computers, and started with creating their own computer programs! We will begin the coding unit with "Hour of Code". This is an international program that was started in 2013 that gets students excited about coding, and really gets their "feet wet" before they begin the process. You can click here to learn more about it.
In Fourth Grade, the students focus on states and regions in Social Studies. Before we tackle the individual states and regions, we are focusing on the United States as a whole, and which states are part of which region. Below you can see the students working in groups creating maps, map keys, and recording the states in which region they are part of. AND they drew their maps free hand! GO FOURTH GRADERS!
